Thingimijigs Sponsors School Tennis Competition - Finals Day

Its finally finals day for the Towneley Schools Tennis competition.  Over the last few weeks Iain and his team from Towneley Tennis club have been into schools delivering high quality free tennis sessions to children.

Today sees the finals, with 16 children taking part for their schools, who will win the trophy? will the girls score higher than the boys?- Just as importantly will the rain hold off? (unlike Wimbledon we don't have a fancy roof when it rains, in Lancashire we get wet!)

We are hoping that everyone who takes part has fun, and enjoys the day, and hopefully they will continue with their tennis though the Tennis for Free Programme, offering free tennis to everyone in Burnley.

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE

Thingimijigs.com are delighted to confirm their partnership with Towneley Community Tennis Club which is based in both Towneley and Queens Park in Burnley.

The pilot scheme consists of 8 primary schools, who will all have free training provided by qualified Tennis coaches in early June, with pupils in years 5 and 6 being given tennis lessons. Each school will select their team to represent their school in the Final.

The Finals Day will take part on July 14th at Queens Park Burnley, (to coincide with Wimbledon)  and Thingimijigs have provided trophies and prizes for the day.

As Burnley Bondholders, Thingimijigs believe that Burnley is a great place to live, and we wanted to give young children the chance to have fun with sport, and get the chance to take part in a competition that has its Finals Day in Queens Park, one of the many beautiful parks that Burnley has on its doorstep.

We wanted to offer pupils the chance to engage in a sport they may not always think is free and accessible to them, with professional training, in a fun way.

Rachael White, Director at Thingimijigs stated “ We are very keen to help young children to try sports as part of a healthy active lifestyle.  As a parent and a school Governor, I know how much benefit is gained if children have fun whilst being active, and how difficult this can be to find the right sport, that the whole family can take part in.”

“Towneley Community Tennis Club was the obvious partner for us, as they have shown their commitment to Burnley with their continued Tennis for Free Programme over the last 18 months, in which  any child (or adult) can play tennis every week for free at both Towneley and Queens Park in Burnley.”

We are sure that this pilot scheme will be successful, and that everyone will have a great time getting into the Wimbledon Spirit , We hope both children and parents are then encouraged to use the fantastic parks we have in Burnley and continue with Tennis at no cost at the weekly Tennisforfree events
